Station Square involved the redevelopment of an existing shopping centre into a vibrant mixed use transit-oriented neighbourhood, centred on a high street shopping experience. The project is located in Burnaby’s Metrotown; a fast growing regional town centre in Greater Vancouver.
The challenge was to create a distinctive sense of place which was achieved through the use of public expression and an emphasis on high quality public realm to create a series of spaces and experiences.
Tower forms were located to allow maximum light and sun into the shopping street and to establish Station Square as a unique and visible landmark for Burnaby.
The plan includes: • Direct access to a regional transit station;
• 'Silver Drive’ retail shopping street including grocer, restaurants, cinema and major retail anchors;
• Office space for 1,500 jobs; five new landmark residential towers creating 2,500 dwelling units; and,
• Green roof amenities including a children’s play area, barbecue, and outdoor dining patio, fitness centre, and yoga studio.
