Campus Spine

CIVITAS, under our US name Urbanistics, and in collaboration with UrbanGreen, was engaged to investigate flexible and achievable master plan solutions to improve the student experience on campus.  The exploration process used focused design charettes and intensive workshops to generate quick and innovative ideas.  These collaborative workshops maximized direct input and feedback from students, university leaders, and facilities staff.

Potential new university projects include:

• Short term interventions that can be implemented immediately such as a “green” shuttle system enabling students to get to class quickly, especially during the winter months;

• Improving the network of bike lanes, walkways, courtyards, and common spaces;

• Long term projects such as increasing densit

in the central campus by adding student housing closer to the academic core that leverages

support and funding from alumni to provide significant improvements, and;

• Creating new campus open spaces and quadrangles to enhance the campus setting

and experience.
